Let's Make Some Crackers!!!

I almost find it silly the lengths I will go to when I want to eat something!!  Our family, besides my husband, have not left our house since we got home from Girls Scouts Monday evening. and honestly, I haven't minded one bit! I bought groceries Monday, so I knew we were pretty well stocked for the week. The only thing I didn't anticipate was running out of crackers!! I had everything to make some dips that I had found, but lo and behold NO CRACKERS!!

So yesterday afternoon I 'Swag-bucked' a cracker recipe. and I could not believe how simple it was!! All of the ingredients should be something everyone has in their pantry. The possibilities are pretty much endless when you want to choose your flavor.

I used Nicole Wills recipe because it was the first one that shows up and looked the easiest to make.

Preheat your oven to 400*F.
It is important to grease your pan well!
I just poured about a tblsp of oil on the pan and smeared it around with my hand.
Stir the 2 cups flour, 1 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt.
Then stir 2/3 cup warm water and 1/3 cup oil.

Mix until a smooth dough forms.

Divide dough in half.

Flatten each half onto a cookie sheet using either a small rolling pin or your fingers.

Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut your squares.
The elasticity of the dough pulls them away from each other!
I just think that is so cool!

Brush an 'egg wash' over the crackers
(egg wash - 1 egg white and 2 Tblsp water)
and then sprinkle with the toppings of your choice.

for the crackers on the left, I used onion powder, salt and poppy seeds
crackers on the right - garlic salt
and a third batch I just sprinkled salt over it

the directions say to bake for 10-12 minutes until golden and crispy
but I ended up baking mine for almost 20 minutes.
Just keep an eye on them after 12 minutes.

Waitin' to be Dipped!

Simple Crackers

  • 2 Cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 Cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  1. Preheat the oven to 400.
  2. Lightly grease two large cookie sheets. Combine the dry ingredients, and then stir in the water, oil and mix until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Divide the dough in half and flatten each half on a cookie sheet. Use a small rolling pin or even your fingers for a rustic, uneven look. Once the dough is spread thin, use a sharp knife or a pizza cutter to cut the dough into squares. The elasticity in the dough will make the crackers shrink slightly and pull away from each other; this makes them easy to bake without sticking together.
  4. Brush lightly with an egg wash (one egg white and 2 tablespoons of water) or spray lightly with olive oil.
  5. Sprinkle with the topping of your choice. Experiment with your favorite flavors, or try one of these variations: Chopped rosemary and sea salt, sesame seeds, poppyseeds and onion salt, Parmesan cheese
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the crackers are golden and crispy.

I hope you all enjoy these!!
I'd love to hear how yours turn out or what toppings you chose!!

Now I need to go make some more myself!! Last night Sean came home and kept 'tasting' to see which he liked better and just about ate them all!!!

I forgot to add what I put on the crackers- I just added onion powder and seeds on one set and basil and salt on the other set of crackers. Came out good. My kids loved them. Thanks again for posting the recipe.

I found your blog through Mommys kitchen.
