One of my many guilty pleasures is MOZZARELLA STICKS!!
On Wednesdays and Fridays I have ZERO children with me from 9:15 till 2:15. All I can say is those 10 hours tend to go pretty quickly!!!
Once in awhile I would stop by Sonic and order their Mozzarella sticks and a Strawberry Limeade, GUILT FREE!!!
I don't think I will be indulging like that anymore when I can make a whole bowl full for the same price as five of theirs!! I found this recipe over at THECONFIDENTMOM.
They aren't even that hard to make! and I only had one minor set back! You can see that picture farther down the post!!
All you need is: love!!

string cheese, flour, eggs, milk, bread crumbs, oil and marinara sauce for dipping
|
|
Cut the cheesesticks in half |
|
Whisk egg and milk together |
|
place flour in one bowl, egg/milk mixture in 2nd bowl and bread crumbs in 3rd bowl a cute little assembly line!
|
|
Now put that assembly line to use!
one at a time dip each cheese stick into the flour,
then egg mixture,
and then bread crumbs (pat down so they stick)
and place on a plate until you've covered them all
After you have placed all of the cheesesticks on a plate, place them in the freezer for about 30 minutes
(YES! on top of the Ice cream!! Where else did you think? that kind of sounds good together!! mozza sticks and ice cream!!)
Start heating up your oil in a pan.
Stick a Thermometer in the oil so you can keep an eye on it as it heats to 375 *F
I have noticed that on an electric stove, oil can go from 150* to 500* FAST!!! and I didn't even think I had the heat on that high!?!
I looked over and my orange pot was kind of a red color!! The therm. said 500*!!! and I yanked that pan off the burner not really thinking past GETTING IT OFF THE HEAT!
Well, I sat it down on a pot holder and realized ....
IT WAS MELTING TO THE POT!!
I poured the oil into another pan, which in turn made the oil cool down quicker and proceeded to finish my cheese sticks!!
Place frozen cheese sticks into oil and continually 'roll over' the cheese sticks until brown, This will happen pretty quickly so just keep an eye on them and take them up with a slotted spoon.
See?? A Bowl Full!!!
Serve up with your favorite Marinara sauce!!
