Special Birthday Dinner (Beef Burgundy)

This is my 'Go-To' recipe for a Special Dinner.
My mom got this recipe from her really good friend Cheryl R. a long, long time ago!! (Sorry ladies, it is what it is!! )

Sean has been requesting this for his Birthday for years!
and that's usually the only time I make it.
It takes about 3 1/2 hours from start to finish to make it, but PLEASE DO NOT let that scare you away.
There is 'simmer time' where you can do other things while it cooks! Like make this Delicious YUMMY RICE recipe!

For those of you I haven't scared off yet,
let's get this meal going!!

You will need:

stew meat, butter, onions,  fresh mushrooms, fresh garlic, salt,
onion powder, marjoram, thyme, pepper, beef broth,  flour, Burgundy wine

And you know I had to pour myself a glass and taste it,
that would be horrible if I were to cook with 'bad wine'

Slice the onions and mushrooms

Melt butter in a heavy saucepan and saute`
onions and mushrooms

When onions and mushrooms are tender pour them into
a bowl and set aside.

Place the stew meat into the pan you took the onion/mushrooms out of. Sprinkle the mixed spices over the meat and then brown.

Remove the browned meat and set aside.

In the empty meat pan, pour a couple of Tablespoons of Beef
Broth into the pan and then sprinkle the flour on top. Stir it around to make a roux.

Pour the rest of the Beef Broth in and whisk up a storm

Pour the browned stew meat back into the pan

Wine Time!!

Measure the wine,
and don't worry, a little more than what the recipe says won't hurt anything!!!

I think Purple is my new favorite color!
Now, put the lid on and simmer for about 2 hours.

Pour those onions and mushrooms back into the pan
Heaven forbid we leave them out of this!!

Put the lid back on and simmer again for 30 minutes
to an hour. We want to make sure the meat is nice and tender!

This is THE YUMMY RICE!!

Laddle a big ol' scoop of the Beef Burgundy over the rice,
grab a spoon or fork and dig in!!
Mmm-mmm!! I think I'm going to go to the fridge and dig out the
leftovers now!!!

and don't worry about that 'juice' all over your plate,
just grab a piece of bread, dab it in the Au jus
and enjoy your 'Special Home-cooked Dinner'
